Due to recent circumstances, Google has temporarily disabled google maps live traffic data in Ukraine
Google claims that they are taking extended measures to protect users’ security in the region, and that is why they have disabled the Google Maps traffic layer and live information on how busy places like stores and some restaurants are in Ukraine. Google has consulted with multiple sources including regional authorities and has taken this action for the safety of local communities and the users in the region.

A professor at California’s Middlebury Institute of Internation studies said Google Maps helped him track a “traffic jam” that was actually Russian movement towards the border hours before Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the attack. Read more on Reuters article
Ukraine is currently in a delicate situation and is facing attacks from the Russian Forces and Big tech companies are taking these steps
Other Social Media platforms like Meta (Formerly Facebook) are also taking some major actions. Meta last week prohibited Russian State media from Running ads or monetizing on their platform globally
Youtube (Google-owned) has also announced that they are temporarily prohibiting several Russian channels from running ads, state-sponsored RT.
Anyone in Ukraina can use the Google Maps app for traffic navigation. Google has only disabled some of its services.
